Hi there. I made this request back in 2006/07 but thought Id try again :)
Any chance of SQ hosting a Quake2 server?
Current Quake2 community play on OGN (Oceanic Gaming Network) but there is talk of abolishing the quake2 servers after a recent server relocation. This would leave 20+ regular Quake2 players stranded as there are no other properly run Q2 servers left in Australia.
Advantages of hosting Quake2 on SQ (my sales pitch :)...
- Q2 community wont be left stranded
- existing SQ community can join in for a fun change to Q3/Q4 etc. Some reasons to try it
- single server is all that's needed to run multiple server configs for Duel/TDM/DM/Instagib/Lithium etc
- server requirements and usage (cpu/hdd/memory etc) is very low compared to newer games
- Q2 server and client regularly updated and available for linux/win32: http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/r1q2/
- anticheat protection available: http://antiche.at/)
- experienced Q2 admins available (with serverside/linux experience) to ensure smooth deployment and running of servers
- some movies showing how much fun Q2 can be (shameless plug :)
