After playing pretty much all night, it seems quite a few people can't remember some of the basic Q3 commands and things to "re-setup" within QuakeLive. If you think you have any handy tips or tricks for making QuakeLive just that little bit better, post them here with a simple explanation so everyone can enjoy! :>
Some things for the new guys (BOLD items indicate frequently asked so far):
Netcode (LAN based settings, good for 1500/256 connections and above):
/rate 25000
/cl_maxpackets 125
/snaps 60
/cl_timenudge 0 (use at your own discretion)
Graphics:
/r_picmip 5
/r_displayrefresh 120 (make sure your monitor can do 120hz in the resolution you're currently set to)
/r_mode 9 (sets resolution to 800x600)
/cg_fov 110 (field of view)
/cg_noProjectileTrail 1 (turns of rocket / grenade smoke)
/cg_marks 0 (turns of marks on walls)
/cg_forceTeamModel sarge (sets team to sarge)
/cg_forceEnemyModel keel/bright (sets enemy to bright keel, can also use "tankjr/bright")
/cg_shadows 0 (turns of shadows)
Sound:
/s_doppler 0 (gets rid of that WHOOSH noise when a rocket goes past)
/s_musicvolume 0 (turns of music)
Timer:
/cg_leveltimerdirection 2 (makes the in game timer count up)
Add anything you think may be useful! :>
r_mode 12 (sets resolution to 1024x768)
LAN/Proper broadband settings (probably not a good idea if sharing 128k upload)
rate 25000 (max rate allows maximum amount of data flow)
cl_maxpackets 125 (highest max packets settings, if rate is to low whilst this is set - prepare for choke)
snaps 60 (highest snaps setting, wsup receiving updates from the server)
cl_timenudge (Yes its back, it makes the enemy jolty depending on how hard you crank it. Max is -50. I found leaving it set to 0 was fine on <10ms ping)

Why don't you cunts play at 1280 by 1024 and sif to picmip 5 what kind of a fag are you. With bright skins you can see the enemny anywhere with full graphics anyway.
Some noob questions i have.
How do you load a cfg to put all those commands above in.
Also a fair few times i and others have call voted campgrounds 2 in duel server, it says vote passed and nothing happens.
Also they have just upgraded Quake Live which forced a total reboot after it finished, Not sure what changes it made?
Oh, 1 more thing. Yesterday when i loaded QL it would show 6 servers, sometimes it would show 7 and today it only shows 3. WTF is the go with that?

The servers load more if required & unload them when they aren't being used.
The callvote map does seem to be broken, as that was happening to me last night.
As for your CFG questions:
C:\Users\noetix\AppData\LocalLow\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3\autoexec.cfg
Thats my path in Vista. I would imagine XP would be somthing like:
C:\Documents & Settings\noetix\AppData\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3\cfg
The callvote map works fine, if you feed it the wrong map name then it does nothing.
illicit, 1024x768 on my trinitron gives me 120Hz refresh.. 1280x1024 doesn't... and if i wanted to see good graphics id play crysis or some shit..
Ah thats right you ghans are still using CRTs. I wish I had my 19 CRT still.
I don't think my monitor can do 120 at any res.
Plus it looks like anus out of native res anyway.
Just found this.
A few of the bigger changes include:
1. New "CTF Power-Up/Rune" functionality. If you're not familiar with these, there are 4 power-ups that you'll find in a number of the CTF arenas - they look like an A, G, D, and S, and award you enhanced abilities in particular areas until you are fragged. Each team has a set of runes. We've changed these a bit to balance their effectiveness against each other and also balance their strategic use. The current functionality is:
G = Guard - Reduces the damage that you take
D = Doubler - Doubles the damage that your weapons cause
A = Armor Regen - Regenerates your armor up to a maximum of 100
S = Scout - Increases your movement and firing speed and eliminates your running footsteps.
Before we post additional specific values that have been changed (which we will, and I'm sure some of you will just figure out), please just try them and see how they feel during play.
We've also added a delay to the re-spawn of the rune when a player dies.
2. The QuakeCon specific maps have been removed from the rotations and the original versions of those arenas are back. They do include the changes made for QuakeCon, but also have the runes (mentioned above) included again.
3. If you haven't noticed, and due to popular demand, we've added additional game servers in Chicago, Germany and for our friends down under in Australia.
4. Added scoreboard to free-fly spectator view.
5. Fix for the sensitivity/m_pitch getting overwritten.

It would be doing that if you type in:
callvote map q3dm6
BECAUSE - the map names have changed. The prefix is now 'qz'. For example:
qzdm1
qzdm2 etc..
qzdm6 - camp grounds
qzctf2 - troubled waters
qzctf4 - space ctf
btw
open up your config file (repconfig.cfg)
and change:
seta clan ""
to whatever and it'll change your ingame name, adding the clan tag :)
qualification: the clan "tag" cant be more than 5 characters, excluding "colorization"
also, i can't seem to make black work, but so far green and white work fine. so ^2sc^0o^2pe doesn't work, but scope works, as does ^2sc^7o^2pe'
it adds a space by itself
and, i've only tried this against bots, so dunno if it will work in multiplayer, but i see no reason why it shouldn't
you can change it ingame by bringing down console (press ctrl+alt+tilde if you haven't enabled console thingo by negs tip above) and just do /clan blah
oh and, mouse5 works too, so for those people (like me) who used x-mouse button control OR used mouse drivers to get mouse5+ working, no need to anymore :>

if you want the servers display to look more like a regular server browser
oh and, you should change settings by using console, not by editing file.
* cg_kickscale 0 -- this makes it so your screen doesn't shake when you get hit.
* cg_bob 0 -- this makes it so your screen stays stable while running, jumping, falling etc
And apparently you can do the colour black:
^^0 - Black //black letters will be preceded by the extra ^

Apparantly an update, but i doubt it or they would of downed all the servers. I think we got dogged again..

TO ENABLE CONSOLE:
press ctrl+alt+tilde
type in: /com_allowconsole 1
and you can then use console as normal (ie just press tilde and it'll pop down)

you cant honestly believe that the potential QL population shouldnt be protected? Getting kaned 40-0 WILL drive people from the game. Anyone thats struggled and struggle for months and is STILL getting thrashed will vouch for this.

kinda sux if you cant play your existing mates or get a friend to start playing in a game with you due to skill level. Guess Python will be extra lonely unless they limit his ammo to compensate haha. Only good if it was for duel server maybe.
Lower skilled players can always join the higher ranked games though.. so it's not really a big problem. Just a timing issue as to who joins the server first :P
leave QL to the noobs and play q3 if you're clued up... you're just going to be playing an inferior(my opinion) version of q3 with people you know from the q3 scene. Or against a nub who u'll thrash with ur headphones on the floor and ur screen turned off.
let them build a community of noobs and get some fun out of it.

The physics in QL are already leaps and bounds ahead of CPMA's vq3 physics.
