In the market for a Laptop

loz, 09:45pm 8th August go to general discussion

Hi guys, looking for a laptop and looking for directions and optinions.

After my research - my pick of the list is the Acer M50SV AS003C or AS025C.

Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz Processor
Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset
nVidia GeForce Go 9300M GS 512MB Dedicated
4GB DDR2 800MHz Memory
320GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
DVD Super Multi
15.4" WXGA+ Colourshine (1440x900) HDMI
1.3 Mega Pixel Camera
Battery Life: Upto 2.0hrs
Weight: from 3.05kg
$1,899

One of the big drawcards is the number pad on the side - apart from that it looks to be good value.

What can anyone recommend around this price point?

Look at http://www.msy.com.au/notebook/notebook.pdf

A usb numberpad is easy enough to get and cheap. Mine (i-rocks) comes with 2 usb ports so is very handy. Glad it isn't part of the actual notebook.

the bluray was like +$400, so ditch that

you can also get a slower processor than what we got

:D

I got the Red Product version. Its fkn hot.

i went and saw a Dell rep today. we ended up looking at a simular system to the Asus but it only had a 256 graphics card, but the display was better [15.4" UltraSharp(TM) Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680x1050) TFT Display with TrueLife(TM)]

this came up to $2k - with room for negotiation.

really want something with both the card AND the screen.

and the keypad isnt a necessity - that link helps prove it too ;)
