open headphones ftw.

I've been using Sennheiser HD 497's for about 2 years now... they go alright. Wouldn't mind something a little better though.

Definitely open headphones for sound quality. Closed headphones are purpose built, either you don't want feedback or people hearing your music.

I have a pair of Alessandro MS-2s. The quality is amazing, beats my Sennheiser HD595 completely.

I definitely recommend using http://headphones.com.au/ & looking at their recommended products.

I just got a pair of Sony MDRV6/7506 Headphones, very clear highs but not enough defined bass. deffo agree with noetix on headphones.com.au, they know their shit, they are pretty cheap, and have a decent policy on returns.

I've decided to go with the Audio Technica ATH-AD700. Most likely going to get it from the states (as I'll be there) as they're about $100 in the US. Currently have Sennheiser HD555's and they're kinda busted so I'm pretty sure these will be a good replacement.

I've considered changing from the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 to the MX518. I think a smaller mouse might fit my hand a little better, but I've been using the 3.0 forever so it might be hard to let go ;(

Please, open headphones are for faggets. Closed headphones all the way.

P.s. I need a new mouse too, and I know it is blasphemy around here but I think logitic are shit. I have gone through an mx 510, mx 518 and now my G5 is dieing. And they all died from the same thing, the mouse buttons stop working. So basically Logitech has failed me hard over my last three mice.

On that note, has anyone had an experience with Raser mouse, cause I haven't! At the moment my main concern is are the mouse buttons going to last more than a year?

Not so sure about closed headphones being better, going based on the headphones I've used I prefer open headphones and the sound is a better quality sound. Just personal preference, although I haven't used a lot of closed headphones.

Never had issues with buttons on the intellimouse :P don't rage it! Razer have a pretty bad history in terms of them being able to stay alive for long....

Fuck it then, maybe I should go back to MS. Do they even still make intelli mouses? (AND YES CUNTS MOUSES IS THE PROPER PLURAL FOR A COMPUTER MOUSE).

I had the same problems with all my logitech bar the mx500.

510 - mouse1 broke (twice)
518 - mouse1 broke (twice)

Only reason I got rid of the 500 was because I was dumb enough to throw it away once I got the 510.

Moved on to the Intellimouse 3.0 - haven't had a problem yet. I upped the USB polling rate from the default 125hz to 500hz and it feels more precise. Only problem I have with the 3.0 is it feels like a cheap peice of shit.

HOW TO: Wash a mousepad.

I've done this 4 ways (all warm water):

Hand wash
Hand wash with small amount of soap
Washing machine
Washing machine with small amount of soap

And the best method I thought was to hand wash with soap. If it's a nice day and you have a spare mousepad lying around, hang it out - comes out heaps better then using the dryer (p.s dryer still works if you don't want to wait for a natural dry).

I use closed headphones simply for the fact that it doesnt hurt my ears after being on my head for over an hour... No squashing of the cartilage :P

Oh and i bought the very first razor boomslang ball mouse years ago. the thing was huge and the buttons fucked up on it. But im sure things have changed. Best mouse ive ever used was the probably the very first gaming laser mouse by logitech... the ummm dual laser something... http://the-gadgeteer.com/assets/logitech-mx1000-3.jpg the one on the right :P

Mice are too damn big and heavy these days.... ive had my mx510 for years now and im STILL not really used to it. Anyone know of any good mice that are light and small?

I use shampoo to wash my mousepad, although I don't wash it very often..I've got spare mousepads which I just switch around. When I get to the US I'm going to buy some more supermats as they're my preference over the others that are out now

05:25pm 29-07-2008 #23

Whats a supermat?

I've washed an Everglide DKT (Exactly the same as the newer models: Everglide TITAN / fnatic pad) and the Steelseries QcK+ with the methods I posted earlier.

Maybe I should attempt to wash my foreskin with shampoo. Maybe then it wouldn't be so sticky and would glide in and out better.

Supermat is basically teh same as the everglide DKT, its the first of the 'large' mousepads. I prefer the surface of it over the DKT and there are 5 different mousepads colours which feel different

got me fucked how you broke the buttons :/

my 518 has been going strong ever since i got it and that was when they first came out... unlike the MS 3.0 iv also got "and only use at work now" it feels like its going to fall apart and has done since the day i got it.. although its still working okay it just feels like ass for gaming.

my (wgt's) g5 buttons broke after 3-4 months
518 seems to be going well so far, and was pretty cheap so can get a new one easily.

I really liked the copperhead shape, small and light, but that copperhead laser would fuck up a fair amount and therefore decided it would pick a fight with the wall. But the buttons were great though, had to get use to how easy they were to press (constantly shooting team mates for a week).

Open headphones probably just have a bigger soundstage? Closed is better for lanning then i guess, though dota azns and cs players can still be quite loud.

also dont wash a cloth mousepad with a scourer (fuck knows what i was thinking)

I especially liked the parts:

and

I've had my 510 for about 3 years... still works perfectly. What do you guys do with you're mice that makes them break so fast is what I'm wondering.

wch you are not logged in

No idea. I never slam / rage my mouse and the button (it always seems to be mouse1) just ends up failing.

illicit you are not logged in
04:33pm 31-07-2008 #38

I don't rage mine, I just honestly think it because we rules so hard at online games the mouse gods mess with out buttons to try and even it up abit. My first mouse button to die was mouse 2 because it is what I use for jump in quake 3 and you pretty much jump around a clan arena map more than anything else :P

as far as mouses go, i think its all personal preference. Ive been using a Copperhead for over a year, and ive had no trouble with it whatsoever. Except that very recently ive become uncomfortable with its weight (too light) and i find myself lifting it off the mousepad a lot.

i find that logitechs are shit.

ventz and kiddie have a graveyard full of MX500-MX510s (atleast 5....)

hmmm, but that doesnt stop them from using the fkn 510s.

mind you, im pretty sure kiddie 'rages' with his mouse (left click usually doesnt work anymore), i think hes broken a keyboard...so i can only assume he mistreats the mouse.

man, why do we always get a new "which mouse is good" thread every few months

any mouse which can handle the speed with which you move your hand, and feels comfortable for you, is good. seriously.

yes true ^^^

any 'brandname' mouse that gets released today is good.

not like a few years ago when shit 'laser/optical' mouses were released...and they skipped like mofos, until the explorer3 or logitech dual laser thingo.

aslong as theyre comfortable...but i cant use anything other than the e3, as much as id like to change my 'grip' doesnt fit with logitech items....thankgod microsoft re-released the e3 :D

ninja - go to the gym and do some weights or something.

I've had plenty of mice over the years, some raged, some not raged. The mx500's LED would just die after a single rage attack and never turn on again.. the mx518 in the same situation just 'reboots' - much nicer :)

The ones that weren't raged slowly started to die with mouse1 - it would get harder and harder to click, and then 'catch' as if it were held down, and then stop altogether.

mx518's may be cheap now Jess, but they aren't easy to find. I finally found a store a little while ago and stocked up on them for the next decade.

its more about the size than the weight... handling a big bulky mouse is like trying to write with a thick texta instead of a pen. I used to hold the mouse with my thumb and fourth finger. But with the mx510 i had to kinda hold it with thumb+fifth cause its too wide and the mouse seems to wanna hang left if i try holding it any other way.

"The ones that weren't raged slowly started to die with mouse1 - it would get harder and harder to click, and then 'catch' as if it were held down, and then stop altogether."

Thats the same problem I had with them Ryan. I bought a new mx518 the other day from ARC to give them another go.. after a few nights of playing, I still think the Intelli 3.0 is the better mouse :O
