I figure the best way to do it based on active players and where people are from is to split the states/territories up like so:
- Queensland
- New South Wales / Australian Capital Territory
- Victoria / Tasmania
- South Australia / Northern Territory / Western Australia
Format: Round robin (Every team plays each other once), then the top 2 teams based on points play for GF, and the bottom 2 teams play for 3rd and 4th.
Teams: Anyone / Everyone can sign up. Captains will be appointed and the captains will pick players out the pool of sign ups for there state.
This is just a post to guage interest and get some suggestions / feedback on the idea.
THIS IS NOT A SIGN UP THREAD
given the fact that NSW contains probably 60-70% of the active player base, what about just a comp and we pick teams at random. Sort of like a ballot, then play using those teams with the same round robin format.
'state of origin' meaning where you originated, or where you live now? :)
Ryan: Either... whatever you allegiance really. But if you were born NSW, and live in NSW - you can't go play for WA.
I guess theres no way of really telling either - so I guess it'll be a case by case basis.
:>
i would like to play in this, its always been a good idea, but was never quite that popular (from memory) in the past!
i suppose i'd be in (for WA i spose) but i really doubt theres anymore from WA, maybe except for blink or touji?
I was born in QLD and lived there until i was 10.. does that mean i could effectivly play for QLD?
you mean you actually moved to perth? on purpose?
Was just thinking of a way to balance numbers - we may get a couple of teams per state that way.
I wouldnt make the cut in a NSW team, but would like to participate. If there would be a lower grading or a complete random selection of teams as a new format, then this would allow those who arent as skilled to join.
seeing a nice mix of decents mixed with shit cunts would be nice :) lol
arnhem land bruddaz representin
ima play for da koori peoplez.
how much for ya fruity box bruz??
sounds fine and dandy, but remember you'll prob need team + reserves. and possibly nsw with 2 teams?
Im in for Vic, know I wont get picked but w/e, :p.

um yeh? because the good:bad (10good - 1 bad) quake3 player ratio is a lot better over here than over east, sorry lol!
i may sign up for QLD, and it may get me to prac, i rkn im good enough ;) but i would like WA players to join up :(

I was thinking about this, but then every single person will sign up - and I can guarantee that a lot of those won't actually show for the games. This is why I decided State of Origin, then you get people who want to play, who will actually show up.. playing some great games!
we could even play over a few weeks worth of games, selecting a new team each week from the states player pool. Would give more people a chance to play and would make the games fresher imho.
No.
Once the captain has picked a team, that team plays the SOO.
p.s - thats even if I run it. Still checking my time constraints etc.
great players mixed with novices would make for messy boring games imo. Stick with the best of the best from each state for the most skillfull intense games to watch.
fuckn hell.
even though im fulltime, my rosters are retarded and i have to work late arvo thru to late nights...
fffffffs!
I hear unholy has penis envy.
Your ideas intrigue me. Do you have a mailing list i can subscribe to?
well if its state of origin its going to be NSW smashing everyone.
great comp ROFL!
(y) mikey
in fact, WA knows they'll get beaten black and blue, so they wont even enter ;p
aha maisn :D
seriously though, wch, what're the chances of this comp taking off?
and, another idea in teams is that sq administration picks a captain for each state, and they pick the team. if people still want to play from a certain state, maybe pick a second captain. so i guess multiple teams from states.
or will there be one team per state, full stop?
btw, i meant that in regards to your time. what're the chances of you having the time to organise this comp etc. does it look likely at this point?
State of origin won’t happen. It’s been tried before and failed after week one.
Something along the lines of what mikey suggested might work but. A pool of players, SQ pick the top seeds to be captain and then set up the players for each team based on what SQ already know are there ranking or capability. This would give great games cos all teams should be fairly even.
Other than that, there seems enough interest that if you say ctf comp sign up your clan that you might get a fairly good showing and some new clans formed.
ah i wouldnt mind another state of origin, wouldnt be able to play every week of course but yeah could come for a few games :D
wa roxxxx :)
get me, ventz and kiddie and it wuld be nice

So sign ups for NSW are closed already then ;)
I've had another idea, that may even out the field a little (It's a fair assumption that NSW would dominate face :P), and thats to do a "draft" comp..
The idea:
Have everyone sign up who wants to play... select captains who then draft players from the signups in to there teams. This would be done how a pug is done on the SQ servers.
Captain1: picks
Captain2: picks
Captain3: picks
Captain1: picks second
etc
etc
etc
This would still be limited to 4 teams for the first time just to see how it works.
What do you guys think? (State of Origin or Draft League?)
DL
its a good idea, as long as we can get people to post that they want to play
Definitely DL, and then number of teams can be assessed by signups.
man its been a while since ive played q3. ill have to give it another run. Ill be up for a DL
I'll be in Melboure next Thursday (22nd) till the Monday. After this I "should" have some free time to organise something :>
I just hope that whatever it is, the top 3 can actually finish the comp.
