q3 net settings (ra3/cpma)

zeal0r, 05:03pm 11th March go to quake 3

sorry to bring up what might be an old question, but i haven't been able to find a definitive answer from google and esreality about this particular problem.

why is it that i can have cl_timenudge -50 in ra3 (with 50 ping) with the models not being jerky at all, but in cpma any kind of lag command makes enemy models really jerky.

cg_nudge and cl_xerpclients makes enemies way too jerky, and cg_laghax -1 doesn't seem to do anything useful and all the weapons seem slower than normal even with my 30 ping.

timenudge is always jerky, in comparison to a 0 setting :)

The reason you're after is because CPMA has optimised the way the interpolation works. I only set timenudge in CPMA because I can't stand smooth players, being so used to slight jerkiness for so long.

ra3: cl_timenudge -30 (goes off snapshots, not off latency - 30 will always be better than 50)
cpma: cl_timenudge -10 (I turn laghax off completely too).

oh, when I say optimised interpolation, I mean they've done their best to remove the need to buffer 'X' amount of frames (not milliseconds.. hence why -30 is better :p) in order to provide smooth world updates / other client movements.

hope this helps!

but it's not jerky in ra3, even with -50 timenudge :)

so is it possible to use any more than -10 timenudge in cpma without enemy models being jerky?

I recently changed my net settings. These are set within my autoexec, so they apply to both CPMA and ra3. I haven't tried ra3 with them, but its a nice feeling in CPMA:

seta cl_allowDownload "0"
seta cl_maxpackets "125"
seta rate "25000"
seta snaps "30"
seta cl_timenudge "0" // original value: -10
seta cg_laghax "-1"
seta cg_optimiseBW "1"
seta cg_nudge "0"
seta cl_packetdup "0" // original value: 1
seta cg_optimiseBW "1"
seta cg_predictItems "0" // original value: 1
seta cg_xerpclients "0"

*shrugs @ nudge setting*
-15 may be ok due to sv_fps 30, however I wouldn't go much higher.. can always try the smoothclient cvars..

0 will be horrible in ra3/ufreeze, and require more leading than you'd be used to, which doesn't work if you play cpma too :)

hrm, i use http://members.optusnet.com.au/~grrrdian/q3/settings.cfg I simply set timenudge to -30 in freeze/ra3. I never get any jerkiness whatsoever in any mod :s
or maybe i'm used to it? i dunno, but i can track players easily enough. i never seem to have the problem of shooting through people or 'lg pointed at person and not hitting' thingo. i miss cause i suck :D not cause of netcode or net connection etc

cg_xerpclients 1 seems to give better lg, but you have to put up with models looking like they are going into the walls and warping around.
