Team Fortress 2 Beta

noetix, 08:11pm 12th September go to annoucements & news

Beta Next Week!

The Orange Box—featuring Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal, as well as the complete Half-Life 2 experience to date—is now available for pre-purchase via Steam. Pre-purchase The Orange Box before the October 10 release to save 10% off the regular price and get exclusive access to the Team Fortress 2 beta on September 17.

The Orange Box

The box also includes a copy of Half-Life 2, which for most of us here, is useless. If you do already own a copy of Half-Life 2 & you get 'The Orange Box', you can use it as a gift to one lucky friend.

About the Game

Team Fortress® 2 (TF2) is the sequel to the game that put class-based, multiplayer team warfare on the map. This year's most anticipated online action game, TF2 delivers new gametypes, a signature art style powered by Valve's next generation animation technology, persistent player statistics, and more.

Unlike other"class-based"games that offer a variety of combat classes only, Team Fortress 2 packs a wild variety of classes which provide a broad range of tactical abilities and personalities, and lend themselves to a variety of player skills.

Play as the flame-throwing Pyro, the room clearing Heavy, or the Spy, a master of disguises. Other classes include: Scout, Sniper, Medic, Engineer, Demoman, or Soldier.

TF2 features the most advanced graphics of any Source-based game released to date - and the most exciting class-based action ever created.

I've purchased this. However I have a HL2 'Give away' option. If any one wants HL2 let me know and as soon as I can (which is when the Orange box is released) you will be able to play HL2 on your account.

If you double up on a game, It ads a guest pass to it. However instead of it being a temp guest pass, it's permenant. :)

pretty fkn good..

I think I'm gonna skip out on the beta and just buy TF2 by it self... portals and ep2 does not interest me in the slightest.

For those interested in the "grenade saga" for TF2, seanos found THIS.

[Adrian Finol] One of the main changes between Team Fortress Classic and Team Fortress 2 was the removal of thrown grenades.

Most classes could carry a standard hand grenade along with a secondary grenade, tied more closely to the class. Team Fortress 2's focus on unique class roles led us to notice that the standard hand grenade was a more powerful combat decider than some of the primary weapons. This made the classes more similar in combat-not a desired effect. In addition, when we looked at some of Team Fortress Classic's map stalemates, they often resulted from large amounts of grenade spam. Two cases were particularly problematic: That of players throwing grenades repeatedly through doorways, hoping to kill any enemies who might be there, and players on the verge of death throwing all their grenades in rapid succession, hoping to get a kill after they die. Removing standard hand grenades made the game more fun almost immediately, especially for new players who were often confused as to why they died, when a grenade went off at their feet. When we examined the class-specific grenades, we found similar problems. Eliminating them from playtests gave us yet another boost in making the game more fun. Once we'd decided on removal, we analyzed each class to see what capabilities might have been lost as a result of the decision. In some cases we added other capabilities, where we felt a class had lost the ability to make some interesting decisions, related to its special grenade type.

Hopefully this means we will see a much larger player base! :>

yeah, it's been going crazy, there were 60 servers lastnight all choc full. the game is fun to play. most games i've played or tried recently don't have that fun aspect to it. think it might be a keeper. keen to see how clan play goes.
