Server rearrangements

incognito, 01:57pm 10th February go to annoucements & news

Now that the optus link is blazing, I've fixed up the servers once again as per everyones requests. I'm sure there will be a few more server rearrangements next weekend, but for the mean time it would be worth using the SSLF feed with a compatible client. Alternatively, there is a QStat server listing (that will work with server query) located at http://www.slashquit.net/sq-qstat.php (screenshot: here)

The list of changes is, as follows:
* Dropped Q4 1.3 Q4MAX 1.77 #1
* Dropped Q4 1.3 Q4MAX 1.77 #2
* Dropped VQ3 TDM #3
* Dropped VQ3 TDM #4
* Dropped VQ3 Duel #4
* Dropped VQ3 RA3
* Upped Q4 1.4 1v1 #1
* Upped Q4 1.4 1v1 #2

* Migrated VQ3 Duel #3 from gs2 to gs1.slashquit.net
* Upped RA3 1.76
* Upped CPM #2 (18 players, all modes)
* Upped VQ3 FFA (18 players - map list to come)

And the list of servers:
* SlashQuit.net VQ3 1v1 #1 : gs1.slashquit.net:27961 [6 players]
* SlashQuit.net VQ3 1v1 #2 : gs1.slashquit.net:27962 [6 players]
* SlashQuit.net VQ3 1v1 #3 : gs1.slashquit.net:27963 [6 players]

* SlashQuit.net VQ3 TDM #1 : gs2.slashquit.net:27991 [12 players]
* SlashQuit.net VQ3 TDM #2 : gs2.slashquit.net:27992 [12 players]
* SlashQuit.net VQ3 FFA : gs1.slashquit.net:27977 [18 players]

* SlashQuit.net Q3 UFT : gs2.slashquit.net:27979 [18 players]
* SlashQuit.net Q4 1.4 1v1 #1 : gs2.slashquit.net:28010 [16 players]

slick new setup, incog. Can that all-mode CPM server be readily changed into a 1v1?

Crus: try adding a QStat list in Server Query with the URL: http://www.slashquit.net/sq-qstat.php (screenshot: here)
Seraph: It's mode votable on any mode.

Thanks for givin q4 1.4b a go :)
Jumped on the ctf server & noticed si_fps 125 is not enabled

Any chance of adding some ctf remakes for q4 ? , or you might tell me to stick to q3a ;p

good work at making ra3 use the mod instead of cpma. it feels the same as optus used too - now its time to migrate all the GA players over ;)

Is Q3 RA3 popular these days?
if not is anything Q3 popular?

I wanna get back into Q3 but I don't know if anyone plays it anymore

+ what do I need to play that game?

you need CPMA, man.

download version 1.40 and the map pack.

oh ok. Failing that, i can callvote the other server into cpm?

CPM FFA Fragfests are a lot of fun, i recommend it :)

Quick Q3 Setup Guide

;)

And yes.. ra3 is probably the most played q3 mod.. GA seems to always have players on there. Hopefully that all changes now SQ has a Sydney based ra3 server.

shags somehow gave me the impression theres a server called:
Slashquit VQ3 FFA
is that true? and if so wtf is the ip?

Seraph: stop linking off-site for the files, gawd!
Moo: CPMA, and everything else you'll need can be downloaded from http://files.slashquit.net/x/q3 :)
Pathe: where do you think you would find the IP? It's in three VERY obvious spots and 2 not so obvious spots.
BullFrag: files are on the server now, not sure if it requires a restart of the game servers to take effect, unlike cpma

yo Ryan,

in server query it says that "DNS Lookup is disabled"

how can i disable it? i/you know Shaun is having the same problem

[B]EDIT: In general properties, set the http proxy to your modem IP (mine is 10.0.0.138). Might help![/BOLD]

I have the folder working now (it now updates), but there are no servers in there :(

Why are you using a proxy setting? Your router should use NAT. Are you using DHCP for windows TCP/IP settings?

because im too lazy to organise DHCP

no really, i seam to have troubles with it... When it was on DHCP for some stupid reason, the wireless signal would be crap.

Well you need to specify your DNS settings as your router, if you've turned DNS off on the router, specify your DNS server as 203.2.75.2.

If both clown and yourself have fkt versions of Server Query.. use mine :) - manually change your Q3 path in the default.sq file - open it with notepad.

hey incog, are you using these settings for the q4 servers?

quote from esreality:

*note* Do not push your servers too high with si_fps/net_serversnapshotdelay rates, because it will cause too many fps drops, higher ping, big lag and some servers crash... Q4MAX team recommends si_fps 90 / net_serversnapshotdelay 30 !!!

Ser4ph you are not logged in
12:14pm 15-02-2007 #29

with CPMA, you can compensate for lag via some client cfg settings. I personally dont really notice ping until it gets to over 80-90

I have been toying with some settings my self, this is what I have found;

q4max does not like changing si_fps "on the fly" , requires server / engine restart, (vanilla does not have this problem as it implements th si_fps change only on new map or a map restart)

I first toyed with
net_serversnapshotdelay 50 si_fps 125 (ok )
net_serversnapshotdelay 50 si_fps 120 (I prefer this over 125)
any other si_fps 100, 90, 110, 80 etc with net_serversnapshotdelay 50 , the screen lags like fuck & it looks & feels horrible :(

I tried also net_serversnapshotdelay 30 si_fps 90 & that also feels fine although not as smooth as si_fps 120/5

Trying to convince clients to use r_forceAmbient is another problem ;) as that will improve frame rates heaps
(who has 125fps on q3a 1 year after its release, NO one, no gfx card existed ;p)

Dunno whats gonna cause more net overhead (higher snapshotdelay/more fps or less fps/less snapshotdelay)

I reckon try, after a clean out the unreferenced maps in q4base on the server ;)

net_serversnapshotdelay 30 si_fps 120 (if no bandwidth issues, can`t really test from 256kb uplink ;p)

or net_serversnapshotdelay 50 si_fps 120
or net_serversnapshotdelay 30 si_fps 90

or fuckit leave it at 60 ;)

The Q4 servers need to be relocated to a new home soon anyway, and I will be building a whole new install for them, and optimising the current map download system from SQ.

Storm / BullFrag: As for pushing the rates, the machines won't have any problem doing that. I'll see what we can do with snaps 30. As you can probably tell, these have just as much impact from their ratio's as they do from their actual value. Same goes with Q3 - so don't stress, she'll be sweet very soon.

Neon: what's stopping you getting them together. To my knowledge, there is no home, and that's why pyth was pushing for a centralised home.

Nice testing bullfrag, but I think the q4max team's advice is what will be adopted for tournaments. 90 feels great to me, and I don't really notice much difference between that and 125. Remember, the _only_ reason we all used 125fps in Q3 was just to get the best jump distance in OSP, we have no reason to use such a high value in Q4.
