A series of Australia-wide semi final tournaments will be coordinated by Ping Events, and hosted by major LAN gaming groups in each state of Australia. The finalist from each of these events will be flown to Perth, Western Australia, to participate in the Australian National Qualifier.

The National Qualifier winner will be flown to Dallas, Texas to represent Australia in the CPL Championship Finals, a global event with participants from 51 countries. The Australian finalist will compete for a chance to win a share of the $50,000 prize purse.
"We are enthusiastic about our new partnership with Ping Events, which we hope will usher a new era of CPL tournaments in Australia. We look forward to welcoming the Australian finalist at our Championship Finals in December," said Angel Munoz, Founder and President of the Cyberathlete Professional League.

so basically, theres a prize for the person that comes first? what about 2nd, 3rd etc?
I couldn't find it in that article, or on the web, so its either nothing, or it hasn't been announced yet, i'm assuming
pretty sure prize = trip there otherwise bl! which is what they had said they might organise
rofl at being in perth! :D
better than spending plane money to get over east myles!!

Does it have to be held at a BYOC lan, or can someone organise for it to be held in a netcafe? (Speaking for Sydney here)
il stil have a go at lan with u guys and get u ready for the comp.
thank fuck cpl wised up and dumped those fkn monkeys who were 'attempting' to run things before.
i wonder if well see recoil and flipped etc turn up to this.
Those same monkeys pulled of ESWC and WCG in superb fashion.
then they devolved into monkeys?
hopefully they put up arachnet wa server again so i can play local, should get coil and flipped (oh and xerak) to prac us up for it. steve - xerak will def come and play i reckon! since he doesnt have to make effort to fly there.
and prize = flight + hotel accom only.
QUOTE WENCHO: "Those same monkeys pulled of ESWC and WCG in superb fashion."
not good enuf sir
monkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkey

http://www.ping.org.au/gaming/
What about Sydney.. where I dare say most of the Q3 players are located.
most of the SHIT Q3 players are located u mean!!!!!!
heheehehhe *high fives self
it says something about trying to organise one everywhere else too i think, so hold your horses.
Quoting Kiddie
so hold your horses.
just like u did when u quit quake?
screw you hippy
game iss copying over right now!!
owned.
yeh better than flying pete, ill just leave my pc at yours, and ride to ur place! :D
noetix here, this is what amy said bout pyth
'some people play with their girlfriends, this guy plays with his keyboard'
she hasnt even met him yet hah
Good news! Not that I want to play, but it's fun to watch these events. Guess WA deserved this after all this time (or maybe QLD).
hahahahahahahhahahahahahaa
i feel so happy now.
hopefully xerak and perhaps even other oldschool WA guys will hear about this........
go wa u faggots!!
who the hell wouldve thought this would be in "shitty" perth??
edit
only problem is.... the event will only be as good as its organisers ;)
i dont even know the last time redflag held any kind of q3 comp.....................................................................
or not ;) hehe
"hmmm now this rounds map is going to be *puts hand in hat*.... oh its pretty random but it'll be good once we ALL learn it ---- q3dm16"
cough!
sif the organisers matter, its only the pro-spectators who whine about it if its poorly run..
oh wait thats you mais :P
what r u crapping on about u idiot?
knew someone would be dumb enough to mention something like that -
okay, what if there were organisers who didnt even know the cpma mod existed etc, thinking it was just gonna be vanillaQ3? ud be fine with that wouldnt u pathe???
u wouldnt whine at all naah. and other randoms settings and cfgs could be fucked up.... we shouldnt have to help them out.
and pathe i wont be a spectator, ill play just for the heck of it how i did lasttime.
i really hope dalton (hotwired) and myles (touji) prac a lot, so they become good consistantly and kiddie likewise, dont wanna see u in the top 3 again..... lol ;p
sifnt go for the good times..
*Banter ON* GONNA ROLLZ YA LIKE ITZ EZ~ *Banter OFF*
;)
if only i wasn't so terrible.
looking forward to watching at least D:
believe it when I see it, even if it does happen noone from this eastcoast will go except pyth who will get payed to go, as with most australian organised events I have little to no faith in its organisation.
if only there was a bit more fore warning i'd fly over for a little holiday and fun...
Never know a qld qualifier where only i show up or a road trip from here :P
oh well who knows... hopefully some comps pop up over there... so ppl can come over to wa ;)
They seem fairly serious on it mikey, dates are already set.
fkn awesome! thats great news for q3 in aus. good luck pyth!
'If only I wasn't so terrible '
lolsame
yeah, sydney quals somehwere in city ftw.
[quote_header]kiddie[/quote_header]
thank fuck cpl wised up and dumped those fkn monkeys who were 'attempting' to run things before.
Cept it was the other way around, we told CPL we didnt want to run it....because it made no business sense.
Besides, don't see you even thinking about doing anything like this. shut your mouth unless you want to step in and do it yourself.
Mais blow it out of your Arse you NOOB!
I'd like to see you place 3rd in any quake 3 comp.
Either way, this isn't great news for australian q3, its great news for pyth who gets another all expenses paid trip overseas if he wins.
Great news for australian q3 would be sq comps having prizes.
wise up.
suck my balls mikestar :D
hahaha grim u wanker....
and your mums overrated ;)
Who gives a shit who wins.. its another good excuse to all get together and play some Quake and have some good times. Shame they have to be in Perth, LOL!
hmmmz, i gotta gree with wch :D (even though i'm fairly new to this whole scene :P)
Depending on how the CPL's 2007 season goes, this may be the last chance to play in a Quake 3 LAN comp.
yep so u better all come over here to sunny WA! ;)
thats pretty true i guess.
itd be great to have people over to play but more would come if they could at least win enough to pay for the experience! would encourage people to get involved and start competing / playing regularly again. dont see a whole lot flying over as it stands, altho at least this way there wont be any overseas contenders competing
if it was run like the other countries involved with prizes up to 8th place would have been great. but i didnt expect them to even have anything, let alone it being in perth so fkn good work! for cpl to make the decision to drop q4 and bring back q3 im sure theyll stick with it for a while, hopefully other comps follow suit and we should see things picking up gradually. could be the first of many and things will improve i guess
mikestar is a wank. he must have bumped his head on a retard or something
btw - bbq + pissup at mine for whoever comes over!
hey vents, tj>u.
if there was more more people in the community saying "what can i do to help make this possible?" as opposed to others, such as yourself saying "why isnt this happening? you're stupid" then much more would be accomplished.
but thankyou for your 'valuable' input.
btw - bbq + pissup at mine for whoever comes over!
Doesn't the LAN go for the entire weekend?
Where is the LAN cafe, suburb wise.. the only cafe I ever really went to was DNA across the freeway bridge on Hepburn ave, from Kingsley.
i love WA.
best address ever!
## blackbutt street, Inaloo
hahhaha loz ;p
bgn... yeah me and ventz and the rest of cXs will just magically conjure something outta kiddies asshole... coz we 'know people' who organise stuff....
pfft ;p
ill admit i cant organise shit, but i wont say i can :D
i might enter this shit.... if i get a trip to perth its a dun deal
ill pay for ya but ull have to smuggle some stuff over for me...
Theres Blackbutt Reserve in Newcastle.

Is anyone going to the the Melbourne event?
nah, when i left brisbane it's gone down hill, no one gives a shit about brissy any more..
...same goes for syd, im shocked about perth!
4 play games seems to be in Scarborough but ive never been there.
not sure how long lan goes for, will try and work something out tho. i guess everyone could only stay for the weekend with work etc?
thanks for yours
mikestar acts like a dumb cnt, not viable for the business? he tries to take part in the quake community, how about viable for the community here?
ive been speaking to the admins from rflan and also to a few of the ping admins, ive helped the rflan lads setup the next q3 comp for the lan theyre having shorly, they wanted to bring it in and didnt know how to run it. i got the dude everything he needs for servers and showed him how other things have been run recently. ive at least attempted to help things, not that i can do much
i wasnt approached by cpl to run q3 otherwise there wouldnt have been a question of it going ahead, we mite even have prizes and a comp like the other 6 countries. not that im part of something like watever the hell organisation mstar is from and i dont know the details, i say stupid stuff about him because i dont like him
sweet, will be hitting the beach up too then.
How does it work.. people who qualify are guarenteed a spot and others can sign up at will?
"still no nsw qual announced, wtf?"
"If anyone else has suggestions of groups with events happening before Nov 15 in other states, we'd love to hear from you.
Contact me on here, or through the form on our site."
contact a major lan group in nsw to host it then?
to the perth one u mean wench?
id assume u can just sign up, people who qual just get accom and a trip there. doubt thered be much of a limit on spots, or that itll be reached.
will be a lot of wa'ers entering and we dont have a qual for the qual, so hope u can signup! :D
lol I should rock up to Valhalla... would anyone else even rock up from SA ?
dont really care if I cant, haha
Apoc, its a free trip to perth for the weekend if no one else tries out.
Anyone besides yourself still play in SA? figjam is a WoWer, was it flesh or presh that lived there as well? cant remeber
I might go to the melb one just to meet some ppl from q3.
flesh, psion, budz, dan are the only playing SA q3'rs that I know of.
I am working this weekend, so wont be me :P dan will probs head down no doubt, and clean up.
ISN'T SKEEZ FROM SA??? skeez is one of my most hated players so you better beat him dan.
ps. i'll keep my bed warm for you.
gross.
i think we should also have a current picture thread so we can recognise all the funny cnts coming to qualifiers
I wil bet 20 bucks that Dan will clean you up Touji :D
I still love u though ;)
QUOTE: I wil bet 20 bucks that Dan will clean you up Touji :D
yay gambling!
how about $20 that xerak places top 5 (if he plays).
kiddie i want ur bed mighty warm :)))) an i will fuck skz up
i dunno how these things have been run in the past, but does it seem strange to anyone that only the WA finalist will get to go to Dallas? how does it work in other countries? I've seen many other CPL finals with more than one person from each country :/
i'm guessing it's based on Australia's worldwide perceived skill level..
its based on the fact it costs a fuckload to send someone overseas and aus q3 doesnt exactly have sponsors comming out its arse. Remember we live in Australia.. not europe where by its a 1 hr train ride to cross a couple countries. whoever is running the tourney will prolly take a loss.
if theres a qual in QLD ill be there! perhaps we could crash a Gameserve lan and get them to host the quals if no netcafe will host it ? BYOC quals is better then none at all.
BYOC qualifiers.. for the Q3 community.
AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
yer fuckit i dont care, id rather that then nothing at all
Hey wheres Hobart? they just announced a qualifier there.
i looked it up and it costs $191.00 (cheapest) for a return flight from Sydney. It's pretty expensive but its $150 cheaper than flying to Perth fro Sydney though. If someones good enuf they could probly win it. I don't think there'ss anyone that good people from hobart - but I can never remmeber where people are playing from. it's nov 11 i think.
http://www.ping.org.au/gaming/details.html
BYOC is shit when its in sydney, just run it at a netcafe somewhere for all us lazy fucks ;D
we should get eVo*cliksta, the crazy newb, to warm up and see what you have to say about tasmanians then, eh kiddie ;) ztn?
i remember beating him back in the day!
on every map, even with a handicap (i wasnt using a monitor)
cant believe theyd miss out nsw.. what state is mikestar's 'organisation' from? perhaps they can run sydney if thats where they are
hahah... not many people came close to beating pete on ztn for quite some time there, while WCG was in full swing.. not sure if it was 2001 or 2002... I'll await para's response on this one. *bait*
If I'm not going to be out of line by saying it, but the reason ESAU etc couldn't run the CPL qualifiers in the end was due to the sheer amount of money the CPL wanted to run the competition. Just wasn't viable. Then there's computers you have to buy for the tourney, prize money.. etc.
Well.. this already sounds like a big flop.
LOL!
mmmmmm, nah not really...... ;/
sounds good..
...coz its all gonna happen in WA, hahaha
Seems to be a bit of confusion about the event on here, so heres some info to clear it up:
The Semi-Finals are open to any group in any state, that wishes to run a Quake 3 comp. If you want to have a chance to come over for the final, contact your local group and tell them about the opportunity.
So far we have Valhalla (SA), who are running this weekend, Shafted/Game1 in Melbourne, and HGL in Hobart. We are looking at a NSW group, and are open to any other offers.
Each group runs a Q3 comp to their liking, either on a BYOC format, or at a lan centre.
The winner from each event gets their flights and accommodation paid for, to come to Perth for the Final.
Any other interstate competitors who wish to enter, can pay for their own flights and accommodation and still enter the Final.
We are still looking for more sponsors and events to help bring Australia back into the International Gaming Scene. Support your local groups, support us, and we will be back in force next year with Ping '07 in June.
We arent running this for profit; Ping Events is a non-profit organisation.
Comon QLD where is your Comp? I just wanna watch, like most things.
Thanks for the heads up, great that you would take the time to post for the old q3er's.
Fragfest to Host NSW Quake 3 Semi-Final
We're pleased to announce that FragFest will be running the NSW Cyber Athletes Professional Qualifier for Quake 3 on behalf of PING at their 'NovemberLAN' BYO-PC gaming event, running on the 11th November.
The finalist of this event will qualify for the Australian National Qualifier in Perth, Western Australia held on the weekend of November 25-26 at 4PlayGames, receiving free airfare and accomodation to compete in Perth.
The National Qualifier winner will be flown to Dallas, Texas to represent Australia in the CPL Championship Finals, a global event with participants from 51 countries. The Australian finalist will compete for a chance to win a share of the $50,000 prize purse.
This now means that SA (already run), Tas, NSW, WA and Victoria are now represented. If you want your state to enter, please contact your local event.
I've been trying to organise a Brisbane Qualifier with Garry Carroll from Ping Gaming, but unfortunately for us QLD'ers, it doesn't look like it's going to happen, unless we find some funding.
"Unfortunately we have got the funding to fly any more winners over.
If you want to work out with the Bunker a fee to charge the players, which covers the flight, we can cover the accommodation.
Garry"
Flights return to perth are around 800 bucks, so we'd need a shitload of people to sign up, at a small rego fee, or a small amount of people to sign up, for a shitload of a rego free.
Big :< styles !
After some intense competition, Python and Ventz faced off in the Final match of the Australian Qualifier.
Python won 16 - 4, 18 - 4, and has won the berth, flight and accomodation at the CPL Winter Championships.
Details, demos and photos will be uploaded as soon as we have some sleep.
